WHAT IS AN SSL CERTIFICATE?
SSL Certificates are small data files that digitally tie an encoding key to business association’s details. When installed on website server, it activates the lock and https protocol and allows secure connections from the site server to a browser.
Typically, SSL is utilized to secure credit card transactions, data transfer and login information, and most recently it is becoming the standard when securing browsing of the social media platforms.
SSL Certificates bind together: -
- A Domain, Server or Host Name.
- A Business Organizational Identity and Location.
A Business Organisation requires to install the SSL Certificate onto its website server to initiate a secure session with the browsers.
Once the secure connection is established, site traffic between the website server and the website browser will get secure.
When certificate is successfully installed on the server, application protocol will change to HTTPS where “S” stands for “Secure”.
